maxillary expansion
an orthodontic method of correcting narrow or collapsed maxillary arches and functional posterior crossbite, whereby increased maxillary arch width is obtained with the use of various appliances that provide laterally expansive force resulting in orthopedic and orthodontic movements. Called also e. of the arch.
