glutathione peroxidase

glutathione peroxidase
glu·ta·thi·one per·ox·i·dase (gloo″tə-thiґōn pə-rokґsĭ-dās) [EC 1.11.1.9] an enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the detoxifying reduction of hydrogen peroxide and organic peroxides via oxidation of glutathione. The enzyme requires selenium at the active site; deficiency of enzyme activity may be linked to jaundice and hemolytic anemia in neonates.
