hemimethylation

hemimethylation
hemi·meth·yl·a·tion (hem″e-meth″əl-aґshən) the presence of methylated nucleotides in only one strand of a double-stranded DNA molecule, as a result of semiconservative replication. The unmethylated strand is then methylated by specific DNA methyltransferases, using the methylated strand as a template.
