aromatic hydrocarbon
a hydrocarbon that has cyclic structure and a closed conjugated system of double bonds that gives it the characteristic chemical properties of the parent aromatic hydrocarbon, benzene (C6H6); other typical aromatic hydrocarbons are toluene (C7H8), naphthalene (C10H8), anthracene (C14H10), and phenanthrene (C14H10).
