hypomethylation

hypomethylation
hy·po·meth·yl·a·tion (hi″po-meth″əl-aґshən) 1. presence of fewer methylated nucleotides in DNA than is usual for that DNA; it may be localized or global, and is related to DNA expression. Hypomethylation of specific regions has been linked to tumorigenesis, among other epigenetic mechanisms. 2. the formation of fewer methylated groups than usual on a compound, such as a DNA molecule; cf. demethylation.
