cholestatic jaundice
jaundice resulting from an abnormality in the flow of bile, usually with elevation of serum alkaline phosphatasealkaline phosphatase, retention of bile salts, and variable hypercholesterolemia. The cholestasis may be extrahepatic (due to obstruction by a stone, stricture, or neoplasm) or intrahepatic (due to liver cell disease such as hepatitis, altered permeability, or obstruction of the intrahepatic biliary system).
