bacterial keratitis
bacterial infection of the cornea as a result of contact lens wear, trauma, use of contaminated eye medications, corneal disease, or some other cause; it often progresses rapidly into inflammation, ulceration, and edema that can lead to blindness. Bacteria commonly implicated include species of Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Serratia, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus.
