musculus puborectalis
[TA] puborectal muscle: a portion of the levator ani having a more lateral origin from the pubic bone, and continuous posteriorly with the corresponding muscle of the opposite side; innervation, third and fourth sacral; action, helps support pelvic viscera and resist increases in intra-abdominal pressure, maintains perineal flexure at anorectal junction. Called also Braune muscle.
