acute interstitial nephritis

acute interstitial nephritis
a type of interstitial nephritis usually seen as a complication of a systemic infection, especially by beta-hemolytic streptococci, although it sometimes has an allergic etiology. The kidneys may be normal in size and appearance, or may be enlarged, soft, and discolored. It often resolves if the infection is treated or the offending drug or allergen is removed.
