silicone oil

silicone oil
any of various long-chain fluid silicone polymers; those of medical interest being polydimethylsiloxanes. Various silicone oils, particularly of viscosity between 5000 and 5400 centistokes, are injected into the vitreous to serve as a vitreous substitute during or after vitreoretinal surgery, such as to maintain retinal tamponade in the management of complicated retinal detachment.
