frontoparietal operculum

frontoparietal operculum
operculum frontoparietale the part of the cerebrum that covers the upper portion of the insula; from anterior to posterior, it consists of the part of the inferior frontal gyrus behind the ascending branch of the lateral sulcus (corresponding to the pars opercularis gyri frontalis inferioris), the lower ends of the precentral and postcentral gyri, and the anterior and lower part of the inferior parietal lobule. The term is used in contrast with operculum frontale (def. 2) (q.v.), although its frontal, as opposed to parietal, portion may itself be called operculum frontale (see o. frontale, def. 3).
