forensic pathology

forensic pathology
a subspecialty of pathology concerned with the medicolegal examination of sudden, unexpected, or violent deaths; duties include the collection of medical evidence, the performance of autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death and, when necessary, the identification of unknown corpses.
