classical complement pathway

classical complement pathway
the enzymatic cascade containing all the components of complement, C1 through C9, primarily activated by the binding of C1 to antigen-antibody complexes containing IgM, IgG1, IgG2, or IgG3. See illustration at complement. The term is sometimes used to denote specifically those steps occurring prior to initiation of formation of the membrane attack complex (C5–C9).
