traumatic pericarditis

traumatic pericarditis
1. pericardial inflammation caused by penetrating or nonpenetrating injury to the pericardium; it is characterized by pericardial pain and friction and may lead to hemopericardium or tamponade. 2. in cattle, injury to the pericardium by an ingested hard foreign object such as metallic debris; the object migrates from the reticulum through the diaphragm and lodges against the pericardium, causing inflammation. Exudated fluid collects in the pericardial sac and interferes with the heart's pumping efficiency. Called also hardware disease and traumatic reticulopericarditis.
