a parasympathomimetic drug used (now infrequently) in the treatment of urinary retention; side-effects may include sweating, nausea, and faintness. It is also occasionally used (as eye drops) as a treatment for glaucoma; side-effects include headache and local burning and itching.

car·ba·chol (kahrґbə-kol) [USP] a cholinergic agonist, carbamylcholine chloride, that is not hydrolyzed by acetylcholinesterase or pseudocholinesterase; used as a miotic and to lower intraocular pressure in the treatment of glaucoma and following cataract surgery.
