microsomal triglyceride transfer protein
(MTP) a protein that occurs in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum and is responsible for the transfer of triglycerides and other lipids from the endoplasmic reticulum, where they are synthesized, into the lumen during the assembly of very low density lipoprotein (VLDL). It is believed to act during the translation of apoliporotein B molecules, enabling them to assume the proper conformation.
