Shewanella

Shewanella
Shew·a·nel·la (shoo″ə-nelґə) [James M. Shewan, Scottish microbiologist, 20th century] a genus of gram-negative bacteria of the family Alteromonadaceae, consisting of straight or curved rods that are motile by a single polar flagellum; organisms are facultatively anaerobic, chemoheterotrophic, and oxidase- and catalase-positive. Some species have been isolated from polymicrobial human infections. The type species is S. putrefaґciens.
