supine hypotension syndrome
supine hypotensive syndrome partial occlusion of the inferior vena cava and the descending aorta by the uterus, especially when a woman is pregnant, resulting in hypotension when in a supine position; it is corrected by assuming a side-lying position. Called also vena caval s.
