tau-protein kinase

tau-protein kinase
tau-pro·tein ki·nase (tou) (taw proґtēn kiґnās) [EC 2.7.11.26] a protein-serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates serine and threonine residues in tau proteins; it is activated by tubulin. Altered enzyme activity, leading to hyperphosphorylation of tau proteins, is involved in the formation of the paired helical filaments found in the neurofibrillary tangles characteristic of Alzheimer disease.
