CAMP test

CAMP test
[Christie, Atkins, and Munch-Petersen, discoverers of the phenomenon] (for the presumptive identification of Group B beta-hemolytic streptococci) a culture of streptococcus is streaked on a blood agar plate near a streak of beta-lysin–producing Staphylococcus aureus. Group B streptococci produce a substance (CAMP factor) that enlarges the zone of lysis formed by the staphylococcal beta-hemolysin.

CAMP test, positive result. Streptococcus agalactiae shows an arrowhead-shaped area of enhanced hemolysis where it approaches the staphylococcal streak.
