citrate test

citrate test
(for differentiation of organisms of the Enterobacter group of bacteria) the test organism is grown on a medium containing citrate as its sole carbon source (Simmons citrate agar). The metabolism of citrate (positive reaction) turns the medium from green to blue. The Enterobacteriaceae are mostly positive; Edwardsiella, Escherichia, Morganella, Shigella, and Yersinia are negative.
