Schirmer test

Schirmer test
(for keratoconjunctivitis sicca) a test of tear production in which a piece of filter paper is inserted over the conjunctival sac of the lower lid, with the end of the paper hanging down on the outside. The range of normal wetting, determined by measuring the area of moisture on the projecting paper, depends on age, sex, and disease processes.
