submerged tooth

submerged tooth
a deciduous tooth, usually a second mandibular molar, that has undergone resorption and has become ankylosed to the bone, thus preventing its exfoliation and replacement by a permanent tooth; it appears to be submerged below the level of occlusion in relation to the adjacent permanent teeth. Called also ankylosed t.
