1. any of a group of conditions due to bacterial invasion of a cutaneous lesion or of the intact skin of a person with impaired resistance; it is characterized by necrotic ulceration and prominent tissue destruction. The group includes desert sore, Meleney ulcer, and tropical phagedenic ulcer. Called also perambulating or sloughing u. 2. tropical phagedenic u.
