α^1-24- or β^1–24-Corticotropin; a synthetic corticotrophic agent, comprising the first 24 amino acyl residues of human ACTH, which sequence is found in several other species and which retains the full biologic activity of the complete ACTH; the remaining 15 residues differ among species and confer specific immunologic properties. co·syn·tro·pin (ko″sin-troґpin) a synthetic polypeptide identical with the first 24 amino acids of corticotropin, having the corticotropic activity of corticotropin but lacking its allergenicity; used in the diagnosis of adrenal insufficiency by plasma cortisol response following subcutaneous, intramuscular, or intravenous injection. Called also tetracosactide.
