An outlying, detached portion of a gland or other part, such as the thyroid or pancreas; an accessory gland. [L. ex, out, + -clave (in enclave)]

ex·clave (eksґklāv) [ex- + L. clavis key, by analogy with enclave] a detached part of an organ, as of the pancreas, thyroid, or other gland.

The accessory thyroid is an exclave of the thyroid.
