A glucanohydrolase acting on a glycosidic bond near an end of the polysaccharide; E.G., β-amylase.

exo·am·y·lase (ek″so-amґə-lās) an amylase that catalyzes the cleavage of α-1,4-glucosidic bonds only at the nonreducing termini of polysaccharide chains. Cf. endoamylase.
