a loop diuretic used to treat fluid retention (oedema) associated with heart, liver, or kidney disease and also high blood pressure. It is administered by mouth or injection; common side-effects are nausea and vomiting. Trade name: Lasix.

fu·ro·sem·ide (fu-roґsə-mīd) [USP] a loop diuretic used in the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure or hepatic or renal disease, as an adjunct in the treatment of acute pulmonary edema, and in the treatment of hypertension, usually in combination with other drugs; administered orally, intramuscularly, or intravenously.
