gly·co·lip·id (gli″ko-lipґid) a lipid containing carbohydrate groups, usually galactose but also glucose, inositol, or others. While it can describe those lipids derived from either glycerol or sphingosine, with or without phosphate groups, the term is used almost exclusively to denote the sphingosine derivatives lacking phosphate groups (glycosphingolipids).
