Hip·po·bos·ca (hip″o-bosґkə) [hippo- + Gr. boskein to feed] the typical genus of the family Hippoboscidae; the winged tick flies. They are pupiparous, dipterous, and parasitic to various mammals. H. ruґfipes is a South American species whose bite transmits Trypanosoma theileri.
