midbody
A dense stalk of residual interzonal spindle fibers (microtubules) and actin-containing filaments that is formed during anaphase of mitosis and connects daughter cells during telophase; midbodies are frequently observed between spermatids. SYN: intermediate body of Flemming.

mid·body (midґbod″e) 1. a thin, dense intercellular bridge, consisting of the remnants of spindle fibers with a dense knob derived from the stem body matrix at its center, that results from the constriction of the cleavage furrow in cytokinesis; although it usually disappears by the end of cytokinesis, in some tissues it persists as a ring canal connecting adjacent cells. 2. the middle region of the trunk.
