It is administered by mouth or injection; because of its adverse effect on the blood-forming tissues, its use is restricted. Trade name: Butacote.

phen·yl·bu·ta·zone (fen″əl-buґtə-zōn) a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug of the pyrazolone class; administered orally in the short-term treatment of severe rheumatoid disorders unresponsive to less toxic agents. It is given for periods of less than one week because it can cause aplastic anemia and agranulocytosis.
