pro·fil·in (pro-filґin) a 15-kD actin-binding protein that forms a complex with G-actin and prevents it from polymerizing to form F-actin. It also binds to phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate, providing a link between actin organization and signal transduction. See also gelsolin and thymosin β4>.
