A sulfonamide used chiefly in bacterial infections of the urinary tract. SYN: sulfafurazole.

sul·fi·sox·a·zole or chiefly Brit sul·phi·sox·a·zole .səl-fə-'säk-sə-.zōl n a sulfa drug C11H13N3O3S that is derived from sulfanilamide and isoxazole, is used similarly to other sulfanilamide derivatives, but is less likely to produce renal damage because of its greater solubility

sul·fi·sox·a·zole (sul″fə-sokґsə-zōl) [USP] a short-acting sulfonamide used as an antibacterial in the treatment of a wide variety of infections, particularly of the urinary tract; administered orally. Called also sulfafurazole.
