SYN: cacao. [G. theos, a god, + broma, food]
- t. oil the fat obtained from the wasted seed of T. cacao (family Sterculiaceae); it contains the glycerides of stearic, palmitic, oleic, arichidic, and linoleic acid s; used as a base for suppositories and ointments and, in operative dentistry, as a lubricant and protective. SYN: cacao butter, cocoa butter, cacao oil.

The·o·bro·ma (the″o-broґmə) [Gr. theos god + brōma food] a genus of trees of the family Sterculiaceae, native to tropical parts of the Americas. T. cacaґo L. is the cacao plant, whose seeds (cacao) contain the alkaloid theobromine, and yield cocoa, chocolate, and cocoa butter.
