Meningitis, bacterial

Meningitis, bacterial
Inflammation of the meninges due to a bacterial infection, often with the streptococcus B bacteria. Treatment is by very strong antibiotics, and almost always takes place in a hospital setting due to the potentially fatal nature of the disease. Dehydration is a common side-effect in bacterial meningitis, so intravenous fluids and/or oral electrolyte solutions may also be given.
