Menorrhagia may be associated with hormonal imbalance (in which case it is described as dysfunctional uterine bleeding), pelvic inflammatory disease, tumours (especially fibroids) in the pelvic cavity, endometriosis, or the presence of an IUCD. In some cases no obvious pathology can be demonstrated.
