ni·a·cin (niґə-sin) nicotinic acid, a member of the vitamin B complex that is a constituent of the redox coenzymes nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). [USP] a preparation of niacin, used in the prophylaxis and treatment of niacin deficiency and the treatment of hyperlipidemia; administered orally, intramuscularly, or intravenously.
