Protein C
A vitamin K-dependent protein in plasma that enters into the cascade of biochemical events leading to the formation of a clot.

* * *

a vitamin K–dependent plasma protein that, when activated by thrombin, inhibits the coagulation cascade at the levels of factor V and factor VIII by enzymatic cleavage of the activated forms of these clotting factors; it also enhances fibrinolysis. Deficiency of protein C results in recurrent venous thrombosis.
