insulin shock n severe hypoglycemia that is associated with the presence of excessive insulin in the system and that if left untreated may result in convulsions and progressive development of coma

a condition in which excess insulin in the body decreases the amount of glucose in the blood (see hypoglycaemia). If not treated with glucose or glucagon, coma and death can occur.

a hypoglycemic reaction to overdosage of insulin, a skipped meal, or strenuous exercise in an insulin-dependent diabetic; early symptoms are tremor, irritability, dizziness, cool moist skin, hunger, and tachycardia; if untreated it can progress to coma (see diabetic coma) and convulsions. Called also hypoglycemic s.
