interstitial keratitis n a chronic progressive keratitis of the corneal stroma often resulting in blindness and frequently associated with congenital syphilis

chronic keratitis with ghost vessels and deep deposits in the substance of the cornea, which becomes hazy with a ground-glass appearance. It usually occurs in children under age 15, associated with congenital syphilis. See also nonsyphilitic interstitial k. Called also parenchymatous k., deep k., and k. profunda.
