a severe type of hemorrhagic fever seen in the Mysore State of India, caused by a flavivirus called the Kyasanur Forest disease virus. The usual animal reservoirs are monkeys and voles, and the vector for human infection is ticks of the genus Haemaphysalis. Besides the fever and hemorrhagic manifestations, there is also a rash.
