lavender flowers oil a volatile oil distilled with steam from the fresh flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia subsp. angustifolia or prepared synthetically; used as a perfume in pharmaceutical preparations. It is also used internally for loss of appetite, dyspepsia, nervousness, and insomnia, and externally in balneotherapy for functional circulatory disorders; it is also widely used in folk medicine.
