(da kah-daґrahs) [Sp. “illness of the hips”] 1. a fatal wasting type of trypanosomiasis seen in horses in South America, associated with weakness, especially of the hindquarters; it is caused by Trypanosoma equinum and is transmitted by tabanid flies. 2. South American name for derriengue.
