[USP] psyllium seed the cleaned, dried, ripe seed of Plantago psyllium, P. indica, or P. ovata, used as a bulk-forming laxative. The mucilaginous portion of the seeds of P. ovata is used in preparing psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid.
