the various complications associated with deep vein thrombosis which are caused by greatly increased pressure in the deep and communicating veins, resulting in chronic venous insufficiency, and principally characterized by persistent edema, pain, purpura and increased cutaneous pigmentation, eczematoid dermatitis, pruritus, ulceration, and indurated cellulitis. Called also postthrombotic s.
