tinea involving glabrous skin areas other than hands and feet, usually caused by Microsporum canis, Trichophyton rubrum, or T. mentagrophytes. The typical lesion is a well demarcated, erythematous, scaly macule with a raised border and central healing that leaves an annular outline. There may also be vesicular, eczematous, psoriasiform, verrucous, plaquelike, and deep lesions. Called also ringworm of the body and t. circinata.
