An inhibitor of urease, used as adjunctive therapy in chronic urea-splitting urinary infections.

(AHA) (as″ə-to-hi″droks-amґik) [USP] an inhibitor of bacterial urease used in the prophylaxis and treatment of struvite renal calculi whose formation is favored by urease-producing bacteria and as an adjunct in the treatment of urinary tract infections caused by urease-producing bacteria; administered orally.
