arc-eye
n.
a painful condition of the eyes caused by damage to the surface of the cornea by ultraviolet light from arc welding. It usually resolves if the eyes are padded for 24 hours. It is similar to snow blindness and the condition caused by overexposure of the eye to sun-tanning lamps.
