an antigenic gene product that is expressed during fetal development, partially or completely repressed in adult tissues, and derepressed in some tissues that have undergone neoplastic transformation; oncofetal antigens, e.g., alpha-fetoprotein, carcinoembryonic antigen, and pancreatic oncofetal antigen, are thus useful tumor markers.
